Call on Russia to be locomotive in post-Soviet space

MINSK (BelTA) – Russia should be the locomotive of processes, especially economic ones, in the post-Soviet space, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on 17 July, BelTA has learned.

“Such is the fate of the Russian Federation. It should be the locomotive of processes, especially economic ones, in the post-Soviet space," the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the participants of the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, and especially the Russian prime minister, had to work hard today. “Many of the issues depend on the Russian Federation. Being partly new in this position [prime minister of Russia] and a responsible person, you had to respond to everything,” the president said. “Judging by what Nikol Pashinyan [Armenian prime minister with whom Aleksandr Lukashenko met earlier on 17 July] you had to deal with a lot today,” he added.

“You are no stranger to us, both by birth and also because you represent the close, brotherly Russian Federation," the Belarusian leader stressed. “You are not a guest, you are home here. This is the main thing. I am asking you to keep this in mind. These are not some diplomatic niceties. We really think so,” the Belarusian president added.
