Andreichenko: Belarus threatens no one, its only wish is to preserve independence

MINSK (BelTA) - We threaten no one, our only aspiration is to preserve the independence of Belarus, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko said during the parliamentary hearings of the Territorial Integrity and National Unity of Belarus. Historical and Legal Aspects of the Reunification of the Western Belarusian Lands within the BSSR,” BelTA has learned.

“Neighborliness, hospitality, desire to live in peace - all these qualities of the Belarusian people are embodied in a peaceful multi-vector foreign policy of the state. We make no threats to anyone and have no territorial claims. The only our desire is to preserve the independence of Belarus, to make the country comfortable for our citizens and for all those who come to us with an open heart and willingness to cooperate. No one but the Belarusians themselves will do that,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.

According to him, today more than ever, we need public solidarity, the unity of the government and the people, as well as sincere patriotism and a sense of pride in the history of the country and its achievements. This is a guarantee of the future of Belarus. “We have to cultivate a positive image of the national history, to make it a real asset of each Belarusian family and each Belarusian. This is a large-scale task and it is practically impossible to solve it by the efforts of the state alone. It is necessary for all structures of civil society to take an active part in this work, to find informal ways of keeping the link between generations and passing on historical experience. Here there is a huge field of action for the MPs who can help convert various civil initiatives into real actions for the benefit of Belarus,” the speaker said.

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that the events held in the country in the context of the Year of People's Unity and the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War provide ample opportunities for this. “It is absolutely clear that the need has come to form an objective national historical policy, the value core of which is the idea of unification and creation. I am convinced that our parliamentary hearings will be one of the concrete steps in addressing this matter,” he concluded.

The hearings will highlight international and geopolitical consequences of the reunification of the Belarusian people, history and modernity of Belarusian-Polish relations, ways of legislative consolidation of the bases of state activity on the preservation of historical heritage and other issues.

Among the participants are representatives of the Justice Ministry, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian Institute for Strategic Research, the Belarusian Research Institute of Document Study and Archival Affairs, scientific organizations and higher educational institutions.
