PM: Belarus, Russia should aim for synergy of their capabilities

MINSK (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia should aim for the synergy of their capabilities, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev in Minsk on 19 January, BelTA has learned.

“The new year has just begun. In the previous year the Belarusian-Russian relations developed constructively and fruitfully. For the first time in many years we marked the new year with no issues in the fuel and energy sector, with all agreements in place. We met a lot, communicated intensively last year. There were many visits, talks, meetings both in the bilateral format and as part of the integration associations: the EAEU and CSTO. Every time we have something to talk about, something to discuss," Roman Golovchenko said.

Belarus hosted many Russian regional governors last year. "There are sectors that are interesting for both sides. Substantive work plans have been drawn up, and now they are being implemented. I am absolutely satisfied with how these relations are developing," the prime minister said. “But we have to move forward. We need to merge our capabilities, both industrial, intellectual, scientific, and cultural ones, at a time when the world, in my view, is moving towards division, away from integration. The pandemic has, in fact, spurred these processes. We need to move towards merging our potentials. We need to set up joint trade and industrial chains, joint businesses, to move away from regulatory towards creative. Figuratively, we need to save money and intellectual resources of each other, develop goods and R&D that would give a synergistic effect when merged,” Roman Golovchenko said.
