CSTO to set up Council on Biological Security

MINSK (BelTA) – Secretaries of Security Councils of member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) decided to set up a Coordinating Council of Plenipotentiaries on Biological Security at the meeting in Dushanbe on 15 September, TASS reports.

“The Coordinating Council will analyze the situation related to ensuring biological security in the CSTO member states, organize exchange of experience, prepare recommendations on the development of coordinated activities in the area,” the statement reads.

Its functions will be to develop proposals for joint practical measures of the CSTO states to prevent threats to national, regional and international security associated with the impact of biological factors. In addition, the countries are set to improve the legal framework for cooperation within the CSTO and strengthen cooperation between specialized structures in the area of biological security.
