EurAsEC Court unveils first bench of judges

MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) – The first bench of the EurAsEC Court was formed at the 13th extraordinary meeting of the EurAsEC Inter-parliamentary Assembly in Saint Petersburg on 23 December. Taking part in the event was a parliamentary delegation of Belarus led by Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Rubinov, BelTA learnt from the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

A solemn ceremony of appointing ten members of the EurAsEC Court was held during the meeting. The first bench of judges includes Chairman of the Council of the Republic’s Permanent Commission for Legislation and State Construction Yevgeny Smirnov and a judge of the Supreme Court Anna Sokolovskaya.

The Chairman of the Council of the Republic held a session of the Board of the EurAsEC Inter-parliamentary Assembly to study recommendations on harmonization of civil laws of the EurAsEC member states dealing with conflict of laws, trade secrets, the legal framework of the EurAsEC energy security and the international affairs of the EurAsEC Inter-parliamentary Assembly, as well as financing of the organization.

Anatoly Rubinov also chaired the meeting of the EurAsEC IPA before the new chairman was elected in connection with early termination of powers of Chairperson of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chairman of the EurAsEC IPA Ural Mukhamedzhanov. Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami was elected Chairman of the EurAsEC IPA.

The EurAsEC Court will start operating on 1 January 2012 and will be headquartered in Minsk. The Court will consider matters related to the Eurasian Economic Community and the Single Economic Space.
