Medvedev: 2011 marks breakthrough in post-Soviet integration

MOSCOW, 22 December (BelTA) – President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev called the year 2011 a breakthrough year for the integration on the post-Soviet space. The Russian President made this statement as he addressed the Federal Assembly on 22 December, BelTA has learnt.

The Russian head of state reminded that on 1 July 2011 the Customs Union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan became fully operational. In his words, thanks to this, the trade between the three states increased by a third, new jobs were created, the efficiency of transit potential was enhanced.

Dmitry Medvedev emphasized that Russia remains strongly committed to integration. He reminded that on 1 January 2012 the Single Economic Space will become operational. The ultimate goal is the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union by 2015.
