Lukashenko: Belarusian hides, furs should be processed domestically
MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Local resources, including hides and furs, should be used more effectively. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko instructed the government to analyze the operation of fur farms and leatherworking enterprises at the seminar held on 15 December for executives of government agencies, BelTA has learned.
The President said that huge amounts of raw materials are exported at a low price to be imported as ready-made products, including fur coats. “All the raw materials should be processed domestically and should be used to make end products,” said the head of state.
The President was told that certain steps in this area had been made already. In particular, an enterprise in Mogilev has started manufacturing quality children’s footwear, which is popular. Unfortunately, the number of such endeavors is small at the moment. It is necessary to use import-substitution programs to expand the manufacturing of domestic products using locally available raw materials.
