Lukashenko submits EEC Treaty ratification bill to parliament

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has submitted a draft law on ratification of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus. The document was signed by the presidents of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan in Moscow on 18 November, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

The Eurasian Economic Commission is founded to secure smooth operation and further development of the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space.

The commission will replace the Customs Union Commission. It will follow the principles of mutual benefit, equality and observation of national interests of the parties to the agreement, economic feasibility of decisions, openness, transparency and objectivity. The document envisages a two-tier body, i.e. the Council of the Commission and the Board of the Commission with separate functions and authorities.
