Belarus-Russia trade to reach $35bn in 2011

MOSCOW, 18 November (BelTA) – The bilateral trade of Belarus and Russia will reach $35 billion in 2011, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told reporters in Moscow on 18 November.

“This year our trade with Russia will make up about $35 billion. This is an enormous figure, especially for a country with a 10 million-strong population,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

“Our trade with the United States is not that big,” Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.

Belarus’ major exports to Russia are foodstuffs. “In four years we will sell $7 billion worth of food. Our main trading partner is Russia. This year we have sold $4 billion worth of foodstuffs,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

The President also touched upon some other areas of trade with Russia, in particular, Belarus’ export of high-octane gasoline. The two states have recently agreed on the delivery of up to 40,000 tonnes of high-octane gasoline to Russia. The oil refineries in Belarus were upgraded in due time, Alexander Lukashenko said.

According to him, Belarus has raised the capacity of its oil refineries from 21 million tonnes to 30 million tonnes. Thus, the country can export high quality oil products, including to Russia.
