Investigation Committee of Belarus requires amendments to 30 laws

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held a working meeting with State Secretary of the Security Council Leonid Maltsev and Chairman of the Investigation Committee of Belarus Valery Vakulchik on 8 November. Leonid Maltsev and Valery Vakulchik informed Alexander Lukashenko about the progress in setting up the Investigation Committee, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

The head of state said he closely follows the establishment of the Investigation Committee. “We have reached an agreement concerning the directions of the establishment of the Investigation Committee, we have agreed that life should be the guideline,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “It is important to set up a compact body. The key link – investigators – should be prioritized in it. Everyone else, who runs around, gives a helping hand are necessary but in very small numbers. Salaries stem from that and so on.”

The President said that decisions required to set up the Investigation Committee ranging from its premises to the structure must not be delayed.

“The Investigation Committee is a child of the Interior Ministry, the KGB, the prosecution and the State Control Committee. It is they that should be primarily interested in creating an effective investigation committee. They shouldn’t impede the process, shouldn't complain that their investigative powers have been taken away from them,” said Alexander Lukashenko. He remarked that Leonid Maltsev and Valery Vakulchik should coordinate the work to reach the goal.

Leonid Maltsev informed Alexander Lukashenko about the main approaches to setting up the new body. In particular, the President was made familiar with the draft decrees meant to lay down the regulation on the Investigation Committee, the disciplinary charter, staff size. The President was informed about legislation changes required to set up the Committee. The relevant bills will be forwarded to the parliament. A total of about 30 laws will have to be amended.

On the whole the head of state approved of the approaches to setting up the Investigation Committee. In the near future the relevant draft decrees will be forwarded to the President for signing.
