Chairman of Parliament of India plans to visit Belarus in summer 2012
MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) - The Chairman of Parliament of India is planning to visit Belarus in summer 2012, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Manoj Kumar Bharti said at a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko.
Earlier Belarus invited the Chairman of Parliament of India to visit Belarus. The visit was planned for the second half of 2010 but it had to be postponed.
Vladimir Andreichenko drew attention to the fact that India is one of the main trading partners of Belarus in the Asian region. In his view, all prerequisites are in place for the development of relations between the two states.
The Speaker spoke highly of the efforts of the former Ambassador to intensify the bilateral relations. “We hope that during your tenure in the post of the Ambassador the relations between our countries including parliamentary links will be getting stronger,” he said addressing Mr Manoj Kumar Bharti.
India's Ambassador, in turn, said that he would make every effort to develop close friendly relations between Belarus and India.
Vladimir Andreichenko thanked India for support and noted that Belarus is ready to provide all necessary assistance to India.
The diplomatic relations between Belarus and India were established on 17 April 1992. In 2009 the bilateral trade reached $500 million. Belarus’ main exports to India include potash fertilizers, acrylic fibers, cord fabric, integrated circuits and tyres. India supplies Belarus with pharmaceuticals, tobacco, tea, fish, spices, nuts and other products.
Priority areas of Belarus-India cooperation in science are nanotechnologies, microelectronics, control and measuring devices, ICT, alternative energy and biotechnologies. In 2010-2011 Belarus welcomed 152 Indian students. Indian youth is most interested in Belarusian medical education.
