Belarus President urges to develop university sports

MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) – At the government session held on 26 September to discuss support for physical training and sports organizations, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko stressed that little attention is paid to the university sports in the country and urged for an action to reverse the trend, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

In his words, university sports can be a good resource for revealing talented athletes.

“Today our university sports are nothing more than physical education at school,” the head of state said.

Alexander Lukashenko instructed Vice Premier Anatoly Tozik to prepare a report on the situation with the university sports development by the end of the year. According to the head of state, every university should make an emphasis on a particular sport.

The President also noted that the number of teams in main sports should be increased in order to build up a reserve of sportsmen.
