Lukashenko donates Icon of the Mother of God to Michael the Archangel Church

LYASKOVICHI, 16 April (BelTA) –Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko traditionally attends the Orthodox Church on the Easter holiday. This time he visited the Saint Michael the Archangel Church in the village of Lyaskovichi, Petrikov District, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

The head of state attended the Easter service. The President presented the church with the icon of the Mother of God It is Truly Meet. The name of the icon comes from the Hymn to Mary chanted in divine services.

Addressing the churchgoers, the head of state noted: “Let me, in the sign of great respect to you and the clergy who accomplish their mission with dignity and help out people, present you with this icon.”

The beneficiary of the church, in turn, presented the President with a porcelain kiot with the icon of St Nicholas the Wonderworker.

Alexander Lukashenko lit a candle at the icon of the Resurrection of Christ.

The President addresses the locals as well as all Orthodox Christians wishing them good, peace, health and love.
