Andrzej Prochon: Poland should start a dialogue with Belarus

MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) – Polish politicians should immediately initiate a constructive dialogue with Belarus, leader of the Polish party Samooborona Andrzej Prochon said in an interview to the Contours TV show on the ONT Channel on 8 April.

“Our diplomats and politicians should promptly start a constructive dialogue with Belarus. It will help maintain cooperation between the two countries. Poland should cease listening to the orders of so-called outer friends and conduct its own independent policy,” the official said.

Andrzej Prochon stressed that Belarus and Poland need cooperation as it is mutually beneficial for both the sides. “We can boast a high level of trade and joint business. For that reason I have difficulty with understanding the position of our authorities towards Belarus,” he noted.

The party leader believes that “pressure on Belarus from the European Union might result in the country’s full focus on economic cooperation with Russia, which is not in the strategic interests of Poland.” “We should preserve the growth of mutual trade. Belarus may partially help us load the port in Gdansk. This is only a small example of cooperation that might bring benefits to the two countries,” the official stressed.

As for the economic situation in Poland, Andrzej Prochon stated that the country has been almost plundered. “We, Poles, should make an effort to save what has left. The EU policy is wrong and we feel misguided,” he emphasized.
