China seeks closer relations with Gomel Oblast

GOMEL, 24 August (BelTA) – China is ready to continue developing all-round relations with Belarus in general and Gomel Oblast in particular, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Belarus Gong Jianwei told media on 23 August. He met with Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik and took part in the opening of the photo exhibition, Milestones in the Diplomatic Relations of the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China.

The diplomat noted that Gomel Oblast is a fast developing region. At present China is taking part in the implementation of several large-scale investment projects. Among them is electrification of the railway to the Belarusian capital, upgrading of highway M5, construction of cellulose and cardboard plants in Svetlogorsk. These issues as well as a number of others were discussed at the meeting.

The photo expo which opened at the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace has featured over 30 works illustrating the most significant moments in the relations of Belarus and China, the development path of the states over the last two decades, important political, cultural, sports and other events.

It is the eighth joint exhibition project held by the China Embassy and the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble.
