National Airport Minsk reports rise in passenger traffic

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) - The National Airport Minsk, Belarus, has reported a rise in passenger traffic. The daily passenger turnover is about 8,000. In July 2012 over 235,000 passengers were serviced, up 28.5% as against the same period last year, BelTA learnt from the press service of the airport.

The rise in passenger traffic is to a great extent attributed to the 56.2% rise in the number of transit passengers in H1 2012 as against the same period last year. “We have never seen such an upsurge, which pleases us,” said Natalia Prokopenko, Chief of the Passenger Service Department of the National Airport Minsk. In January-July 2012 these numbers reached 28,838 people.

On 2 August the airport congratulated its millionth passenger of the year in 2012 and held the welcoming ceremony which was attended by the airport staff and representatives of the air company which organized the flight. “This event is very significant for us. Year after year such ceremonies are held earlier and earlier. Several years ago we welcomed our millionth passenger at the end of the year. These days we do it in August, which is great for us,” Natalia Prokopenko underlined.

Vyacheslav Teterev, the millionth passenger, lives in Minsk, Belarus. He was flying on an ETIHAD flight to India connecting in Abu-Dhabi. Head of the representation office of the ETIHAD Airways in Belarus Paolo Greco noted that the company is happy to have the millionth passenger of the airport on board. It is even more symbolic because in a short time the company will celebrate the fourth anniversary of its work in Belarus. “We hope that very soon we will fly here even more frequently,” Paolo Greco noted. Currently the company is looking into the possibility of organizing a fourth flight to Minsk per week.

The representatives of the National Airport Minsk and the ETIHAD Airways company presented Vyacheslav Teterev with souvenirs and a certificate that gives the right to be serviced in the business-area at the airport.
