Monument to wooden spoon to be unveiled in Berezino

MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) – A monument to a wooden spoon will be erected in Berezino, BelTA learnt from head of the Berezino craftsmen club Anna Zhdanovich.

The sculpture will be unveiled to mark the Byarezinskiya Lyzkary (Berezino wooden spoon makers) feast celebrated on 11 August. The height of the monument together with the pedestal is 3.5 meters. The composition, patterned, will be set up at the entrance to the town.

“We believe this sculpture will promote and strengthen the tourist brand of Berezino District,” Anna Zhdanovich said.

Byarezinskiya Lyzkary was first celebrated in Minsk Oblast in 2010. Then Berezino opened a museum to a wooden spoon as part of the Traditional Culture and Children program.

Wooden spoons were widely used in the ancient times. Sometimes whole villages were engaged in the production and sales of wooden spoons. They were often decorated with different patterns like animals and birds, had carved handles.
