Belarus parliamentary candidates to make media appearances starting 27 August

MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Belarusian parliamentary candidate will be able to make media appearances from 27 August to 14 September, BelTA learnt at the session of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus on 17 September. The session discussed distribution of airtime between district election commissions.

The CEC adopted regulations on the use of airtime during the preparation and conduct of the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly. The document provides that parliamentary candidates have the right to free airtime, five minutes each, on state TV and radio.

The distribution of airtime aims to provide each candidate with the right to use his/her free airtime.

Media appearances will be held at prime time. Candidates will be able to deliver their candidate programs from 19:00 to 20:00 on TV and from 18:00 to 19:00 on radio. TV and radio debates will be held at the same time, the airtime for the debates will be free of charge.

Each TV and radio company was suggested reserving airtime for debates, five minutes for each candidate and a host. Candidate programs should be voiced by parliamentary candidates themselves. However, parliamentary candidates can delegate their proxies to take part in debates.
