Good socialism for Belarus

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has said that he would like to build socialism in a good sense of the term in Belarus. Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement at the meeting with members of the Club of editors-in-chief of the CIS states, Baltic states, and Georgia, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to build socialism in Belarus using traditional terms. We don’t need the socialism of the Soviet Union that we learned about from school textbooks. We need something from France’s. For instance, I like the name the Socialist Party of France,” said the President.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, pursuing only the policy of the so-called market economy is impossible. “I can say even now that to some degree some parties suggest various ideas under the market economy guise in order to bring us lower. Because we compete with them,” believes the head of state.

“Why socialism? France, which is a good, economically developed nation, is not afraid to use the term. A people-oriented economy is the root of socialism. It is the foundation. Any activity relies on people. People should be in the center. Hence social economy,” stressed Alexander Lukashenko.

“We are building a people-oriented economy. At least we are trying to, it is not a simple thing for us. Because we are surrounded by market-minded people and methods that we have to adjust ourselves to the situation. Otherwise, we will be destroyed,” said the head of state.

The President also remarked that every state has a model that may coincide with the classic definitions of the economic order to a degree. There will be always peculiarities because people, traditions, and the history are different, believes Alexander Lukashenko.
