Russia pushes for single observation standards at OSCE Ministerial Council

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Russia insists that the OSCE should conduct a comparative analysis of electoral laws and come up with single election observation standards for the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov was quoted as saying at the OSCE Ministerial Council on 6 December.

A draft decision of the Ministerial Council on the single election observation standards was put forward by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

According to Sergei Lavrov, the year 2012 was packed with election events: elections were held in Russia, the United States, France, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and a number of other countries. Double standards were again revealed in the approaches used by the OSCE/ODIHR observers. The same facts were assessed differently in different countries.
