Lukashenko converses with Alexander Prokhanov

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has met with Alexander Prokhanov, a famous writer, publicist, editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Zavtra, on 21 February, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian head of state

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of state gave the journalist a book by Vladimir Likhodedov “Adam Mickiewicz on postcards of the late 19th – early 20th centuries”.

“You are mainly focused on the Russian culture, on everything about Russia, as I could see. I want to show you that Belarus has been and still is a cradle of great people. One of them is Adam Mickiewicz. People still argue about his origins: some say he is a Pole, others that he is Lithuanian or Belarusian… He was born in Novogrudok, he hails from here; he has always valued his home and has done a lot. I know that you are very familiar with his works,” the President said. “After all, the things that you, poets, publicists, scientists do is absolutely international,” the head of state added.

“I would call him a Eurasian poet, because a new Eurasian concept needs this kind of genius,” Alexander Prokhanov said.

During the meeting, the Belarusian President and the Russian publicist talked about the modern history, integration on the post-Soviet space and Belarus-Russia relations.
