Belarus prepares industry development concept through 2020

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - The industry development concept through 2020 has been prepared in Belarus, Deputy Economy Minister Anatoly Filonov told reporters in Minsk. The Presidium of the Council of Ministers reviewed this document in a meeting on 21 February.

The main priorities are the innovative development, improving productivity by creating high-performance workplaces. The government is aiming for structural and technological reforms of the industry, resource-saving technologies. “By 2020, we are set to achieve industrial productivity at the level of $34,000-36,000 per employed person in industry,” said the Deputy Minister. A total of 400,000 high-performance workplaces will be created. Gross value added is expected to increase 2.3 -2.4 times. “Wages will average $1300,” added Anatoly Filonov.

The concept envisages measures to stimulate labor productivity and sci-tech support of the industry.

Today the national industry is based mainly on the third technological paradigm. The country needs to upgrade it in order to meet the European level, the official noted.

The concept will be submitted to the head of state for approval. The document will make a basis of a new industrial development program of the Republic of Belarus through 2020. The funding of the program will reach $90 billion. According to Anatoly Filonov, the development of the draft program is to be completed by mid-March.
