S Korea will expand economic cooperation with Belarus, Ambassador says

MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) - The Republic of Korea will expand economic, cultural and educational cooperation with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Belarus Kang Weon Sik at the evening to celebrate 20 years of the Belarusian-Korean diplomatic relations.

The diplomat stressed that for the past 20 years the two states have been able to achieve great results in bilateral cooperation, despite the huge geographical distance. Although trade is still not big, there is a mutual desire to increase it.

The Ambassador also stressed that the two states have established good cultural exchange. Artists from Korea successfully perform in Belarus, and Belarusian ones in Seoul.

Mr Kang Woen Sik is convinced that Belarus has a great potential for further development of cooperation on all fronts. In his view, for the period of its independence Belarus has achieved a lot in economy, science.

The diplomat noted that the Republic of Korea is also strengthening its positions in the international politics, economy, IT-technologies. This is evidenced by many facts. In particular, in 2010 Seoul played host to G20 Summit. In March the Korean capital will welcome the Nuclear Security Summit. EXPO-2012 will open in the South Korean city of Yeosu in May.

Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Guryanov, former Ambassador of Belarus to the Republic of Korea, noted the importance of cooperation with that country. In his view, for the past 20 years the relations between the two countries had good development on all fronts. The two sides have signed over 20 intergovernmental agreements. Alexander Guryanov noted the important role of the embassies of the two states in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation.
