Savinykh: Greater US military presence in Strait of Hormuz is detrimental to Iran nuclear talks

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – A massive reinforcement of the military presence of the United States and some European countries in the Strait of Hormuz frustrates international political and diplomatic efforts to discuss Iran’s nuclear program, Andrei Savinykh, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus told a briefing answering a question by a BelTA correspondent.

“A massive reinforcement of the military presence of the United States and a number of European countries in the Strait of Hormuz frustrates international political and diplomatic efforts to discuss Iran’s nuclear program. It aggravates tensions, uncertainty and unpredictability. It increases the probability of a non-peaceful scenario,” Andrei Savinykh said.

In his words, Belarus advocates peaceful settlement of disputes in compliance with international law. “We expect the parties to stick to their declarations of the priority of peaceful settlement of the situation,” the Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry added.
