Belarus’ observers produce objective evaluation of Kazakhstan election

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – Belarusian observers, including MPs, produced an objective evaluation of the parliamentary election in Kazakhstan that was held in January this year, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Belarus Anatoly Smirnov said as he met with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko on 1 February, BelTA has learnt.

“I would like to thank the Belarusian delegation, especially MPs, for monitoring the parliamentary election,” the ambassador said. In his words, the CIS observers gave an objective evaluation of the election. At the same time, the OSCE representatives made contradicting statements. “They would make some statement and in an hour they would say something completely different,” Anatoly Smirnov underlined. He reminded that several political parties received seats in the parliament, which demonstrates certain competition and a dialogue.

Besides, the ambassador noted that the diplomatic mission has organized a variety of events in Belarus in recent years, in particular in 2010, when Kazakhstan presided over the OSCE. The diplomat underlined that Belarus offered great support to the country during this period.

The dynamic relations between the two countries are attributed in many ways to the relations of the heads of state of Belarus and Kazakhstan. Diplomats invest a lot of efforts, too. “We did not neglect a single cooperation opportunity,” the ambassador said. Scientific collaboration is gaining momentum. “It is great that all new technologies and solutions are scientifically supported in Belarus,” Anatoly Smirnov said. The ambassador informed that Kazakhstan is running ten major projects together with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The military cooperation between the two countries is rather vigorous, too. Kazakhstan citizens study in military and civilian universities of Belarus. Here they get a high qualification and are satisfied with the training, the ambassador said. “I meet with them and talk to them a lot. They say that education in Belarus is very good,” Anatoly Smirnov said. He emphasized that every year two or three Kazakhstan diplomats graduate from the Academy of Public Administration under the Aegis of the President of Belarus.

The ambassador said that in 2011 the bilateral trade more than doubled. Interregional cooperation played a part here. Joint projects in agribusiness are on the rise. Besides, Kazakhstan buys BelAZ trucks. Anatoly Smirnov expressed hope that the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space will help Belarus and Kazakhstan to reach $5 billion in the bilateral trade.

Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko thanked Anatoly Smirnov for his contribution to the development of Belarus-Kazakhstan relations. The Kazakh embassy attached much importance to inter-parliamentary cooperation. Vladimir Andreichenko reminded that in 2011 Chairman of the Majilis – the lower house of the Kazakh Parliament – Ural Muhamedzhanov, paid a visit to Belarus. “I think the visit was a success and was held on a high level,” he said. Vladimir Andreichenko believes that since Anatoly Smirnov was appointed ambassador to Belarus, a strong foundation was built to promote Belarus-Kazakhstan relations.
