Belarus-Moldova trade up 28.2% in January-November 2011

CHISINAU, 19 January (BelTA) – The trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Moldova was vibrant in 2011. In January-November the bilateral trade totaled $285.8 million, up 28.2% as compared to the same months a year ago, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus in Moldova.

Moldova is an important trading partner for Belarus, ranking 15th among Belarus’ global export destinations and fourth in the CIS. Belarus is eighth among Moldova’s international trading partners.

Over the period under review Belarus’ main exports to Moldova were oil products, bitumen, liquefied gas, polyethylene, tyres, plastic containers, fiberglass, fertilizers, trolleybuses, tractors, road construction equipment, spare parts, food, medications, ceramic tiles, refrigerators, cookers, sewing machines, etc.

According to the Belarusian embassy in Moldova, Belarus contributed a lot to the Chisinau transport fleet upgrading project last year. The Moldavian capital bought 102 Belarusian trolleybuses. Now the two countries are considering joint assembling of Belarusian trolleybuses in Chisinau.

The Belarusian-Moldavian trade and economic cooperation is mutually beneficial and complementary. Over the 11 months of 2011 Belarus reinforced its positions as the leading consumer of Moldavian wine products and one of the main consumers of Moldavian fruit and vegetables.

In October 2011 the Belarus-Moldova intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation held its 13th meeting in Chisinau under the chairmanship of Belarus Vice Premier Valery Ivanov and Deputy Prime Minister, Economy Minister of Moldova Valeriu Lazar. The meeting gave an additional impetus to the bilateral cooperation and outlined the most promising cooperation areas between the two countries.
