Ambassador: OSCE’s evaluation of Kazakh parliamentary election is controversial
MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Anatoly Smirnov has pointed to controversial evaluation of the parliamentary election in Kazakhstan by the OSCE observers. The Kazakh ambassador gave a press conference in Minsk on 18 January, BelTA has learnt.
The diplomat pointed to imbalances in the election evaluation by western organizations, first of all. He noted that OSCE/ODIHR made a conclusion that Kazakhstan is moving towards democracy, though fails to meet some requirements. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called the election democratic; many observers share this view, however, some voice absolutely opposite views.
Anatoly Smirnov said that Kazakhstan has switched to e-voting and transparent ballot boxes, which will allow reduce accusations of fraud.
