Buzovsky: Despite formal resolution many in PACE are in favor of constructive dialogue with Belarus

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – On the sidelines of the winter summit of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) representatives of the PACE member states spoke in favor of a constructive dialogue with Belarus despite the organization’s official resolution on toughening sanctions against the country, BelTA learnt from First Secretary of Belarus’ BRSM Youth Union Igor Buzovsky.

Igor Buzovsky took part in an educational seminar for young parliamentarians and youth leaders of Russia and the CIS which took place during the PACE summit. The participants of the seminar were able to talk to new PACE chairman Jean-Claude Mignon who supported the idea of developing constructive relations with Belarus.

The same opinion was echoed by other representatives of the PACE member states, Igor Buzovsky emphasized. Many stressed that Europe sees a negatively-drawn picture of Belarus. It is in a striking contrast with the impressions one get while visiting Belarus, the BRSM leader added.

A constructive dialogue is also preferable in what regards Belarus’ participation in the Eurasian youth movement. Thus, Jean-Claude Mignon hailed the initiative to set up the CIS Youth Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. The PACE head pledged all-round support to this idea.

The educational seminar for young parliamentarians and youth leaders of Russia and the CIS was attended by 30 representatives of youth parliaments, governments and youth civil associations of the CIS member states, young politicians, MPs, and media. The event was organized to get the youth familiar with the structure and principles of the Council of Europe.
