Belarus to promote UN authority, potential

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Belarus intends to put its initiatives into practice to promote the authority and potential of the United Nations Organization as the main instrument of the international multilateral diplomacy, Belarus’ permanent representative in the UN Andrei Dapkiunas said as he met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

Andrei Dapkiunas met with the UN Secretary General to present his credentials. The event took place at the UN headquarters in New York on 4 January.

The two agreed on close cooperation between the UN Secretariat and the Belarusian mission in the implementation of promising Belarusian initiatives in the United Nations Organization.

The United Nations Organization is a unique international organization set up to support peace and security in the world. The UN promotes and develops friendly relations between the countries, assists social progress and better living conditions, and protects human rights.

The Republic of Belarus is one of the UN founders.
