Belarus harvests two million tonnes of grain

MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) - Belarus has harvested the 2-millionth tonne of grain, BelTA learnt from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

As of 27 July, the harvest was 2,199.8 million tonnes of grain with an average yield of 38.2 kg/ha. The highest yield is in Grodno Oblast (48.9 centners/ha), the lowest one in Gomel Oblast (30 centners/ha).

A total of 576.7 hectares sown with grain and legume crops were harvested, which represents 23.8% of the total. Brest Oblast has harvested 45.7% of the areas, Vitebsk 6.4%, Gomel 38.9%, Grodno 26%, Minsk 18.5%, and Mogilev Oblast 14.8%. In 2012 Belarus sowed 2,428.4 million hectares with grain and legume crops. Given good weather conditions, the harvest campaign will take up from 18 up to 24 days.

Farmers have already cropped 348.3 hectares sown with canola (92% of the sown area). The harvest made up 753,500, with an average yield of 21.6 kg/ha. Some 14,300 hectares sown with flax were harvested (22.3%).
