MAZ to equip vehicles with YaMZ Euro-4 engines

MINSK, 25 July (BelTA) - Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) will set up serial production of vehicles equipped with new YaMZ-530 engines that are Euro-4 compliant. The engines are produced by Avtodiesel Yaroslavl Motor Works (YaMZ trademark), BelTA learnt from spokesperson for MAZ Yulia Katash.

The new engine YaMZ-530 is already installed on some types of MAZ vehicles which are currently being certified.

Yulia Katash also said that a MAZ motor rally kicked-off in Minsk on 23 July. Participating in the event are MAZ vehicles that are equipped with the YaMZ Euro-4 engines which are produced by GAZ Group where YaMZ is a member. The motor rally aims to assess engineering capabilities of the vehicles in operating conditions.

The 1,700km route covers all the oblasts of Belarus. A demonstration of the vehicles will be held at each checkpoint of the route. The move is aimed to show the new products to potential buyers and operating organizations.

The engines are manufactured at YaMZ in cooperation with the Austrian engineering company AVL List. The engines are Euro-3 and Euro-4 compliant and have quite low maintenance costs. A dealer and service network for the YaMZ engines is operating in Belarus.

It is not the first time that MAZ and the Russian GAZ Group have held such events to demonstrate technical and operational capabilities of their vehicles. A joint motor rally featuring MAZ vehicles equipped with the YaMZ engines was held between Minsk and Novosibirsk in 2008.

MAZ was established in 1944 and was reorganized into a joint stock company in 2009. MAZ is part of the Industry Ministry system of Belarus. The plant produces the whole variety of vehicles from buses and trolleybuses to dumpers and truck tractors.

The GAZ Group was created in 2005. The corporation includes Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) and its subsidiary enterprises.
