Belarus-Czech trade up 15% in January-May

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) - Belarus- Czech trade rose by 15.1% to reach $209.4 million in January-May 2012, BelTA learnt from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Czech Republic Vasily Markovich.

Belarus’ export expanded by 21.5% and totaled $50.2 million; import went up 13.2% to reach $159.2 million. Belarus had a foreign trade deficit of $109 million. “The Czech Republic is Belarus’ 19th biggest trading partner,” Vasily Markovich said.

In January-May Belarus increased exports of oil products, aluminum metalware, synthetic threads, processed flax, car and tractor spares, fiberglass, aluminum wire rods and shapes, fluid pumps, electromotors and generators, timber, fuel wood and other export goods.

In January-March Belarus raised $7.5 million worth of investment on a net basis, which was up 2.3 times as against the same period of last year. “We have exceeded year-on-year net FDI projections for 2012 ($6 million) by 25%,” the Ambassador underlined. The Czech Republic’s gross investment in Belarus equaled to $19.6 million in January-March and went up over 2.7 times from the same period of 2011.

One hundred enterprises with the Czech capital are registered in Belarus, including 49 joint ventures and 51 foreign enterprises.
