MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) - Minsk Oblast is ready for all-round cooperation with Liaoning, the largest province of the People's Republic of China, chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Boris Batura sad as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the PRC in Belarus Gong Jianwei and chairman of Liaoning Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference Yue Fuhong.

“Opportunities and prospects for cooperation between Belarus and China are great. We have a lot to learn from each other,” Boris Batura said. He emphasized that in January-May this year the foreign trade between Minsk Oblast and China totaled $214 million. Export reached $116.2 million, imports $97.8 million.

There are plans to sign a bilateral cooperation agreement. The two sides will cooperate in economy, transport, agriculture, environment, health and social policy, culture, education and youth policy, sports and tourism.

The Chinese guests invited Boris Batura to visit Liaoning Province. A decision was taken to sign the cooperation agreement during the visit of the Minsk Oblast Governor to China. The trip is scheduled for October this year.

Boris Batura is considering a visit to China as an opportunity to get acquainted with the production technology in the region. He intends to give particular attention to the High-Tech Park.

Gong Jianwei, in turn, stressed that today’s meeting will prompt close relations between the two countries.

China is traditionally one of the top ten trading partners of Minsk Oblast. In 2011 China accounted for 6% of Minsk Oblast’s foreign trade. In 2011 Minsk Oblast had a trade surplus of $52.8 million.

In January-May 2012 major exports of Minsk Oblast were potash fertilizers (Belarusian Potash Company), freight vehicles, parts and equipment for trucks and tractors (BelAZ). The region imported aluminium plates, automatic data processing machines. In January-May 2012 the trade with China made up $16.1 million.

As of today, there are nine companies (three joint and six foreign companies) with Chinese investments in Minsk Oblast.

The Chinese Engineering Corporation SAMS is involved in the project to set up the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park in Smolevichi District. The construction of the Minsk Regional High-Tech Park in Smolevichi District is one of the biggest innovative projects. The park will specialize in machine building, metal processing and electronic equipment.

International agreements on cooperation and twin-town relations play a crucial role in the development of mutual partnerships. In 2002 the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee and Chongquing People’s Hall signed the agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation.
