Russia MP: Belarus pursues independent economic policy

MOSCOW, 4 July (BelTA) – The Belarusians show the example of an independent economic policy, Anatoly Lokot, a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, said congratulating Belarusian people on the Independence Day at the State Duma of Russia on 3 July, BelTA learnt.

Anatoly Lokot noted that Belarus did not allow predatory privatization, preserved economic and R&D potential and is developing high technologies. “Today Belarus is self-sufficient in food and produces three times as much than the domestic market requires,” the Russian MP emphasized.

“The Belarusians honor their commitments as our ally. Russia has two strategic military bases on the Belarusian territory which provide the security of the Union State and the Russian Federation. These days the border of the Union State and the Russian Federation is not near Velikie Luki and Smolensk but in Brest and Grodno. This is another result of our joint work and the fulfillment of the allied obligations by our brothers,” Anatoly Lokot emphasized.

The Russian MP also noted that Belarus is the only one of the former-Soviet states “that associates the Independence Day not with the day of liberation from the so-called Soviet occupation or with the independence from the Soviet Union but with the liberation of Minsk from the Nazi invaders.”
