CIS Council of Defense Ministers to meet in Kaliningrad 5 July

MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – Multifaceted partner cooperation will be discussed at the 62nd meeting of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers in Kaliningrad on 5 July, BelTA learnt from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting will be chaired by Defense Minister of Russia Anatoly Serdyukov. Partaking in the event with be delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.

The agenda of the meeting includes over 20 issues of cooperation areas between the defense ministries of the Commonwealth.

The participants of the meeting will discuss the use of the orbital grouping of the Russian Armed Forces and spacecraft for social and economic purposes. They will consider issues related to the development of joint (united) systems for military purposes, analyze a development concept of the united geoinformation system for the armed forces of the CIS member states, and many other issues.

Promising areas for many-sided military cooperation within the Commonwealth are collaboration in engineering support of the activity of the CIS Armed Forces as well as radiation, chemical and biological protection of troops and facilities.

The meeting will also consider promising areas for development of the United Air Defense System of the CIS member states. In particular, the participants of the meeting are set to adopt an action plan of the CIS United Air Defense System, coordinate the issues of allocating resources to develop the CIS United Air Defense System and analyze safety of flights.

Besides, the defense ministers will discuss the issues of sports development in the Armed Forces of the CIS member states.
