CIS to send 100-200 observers to monitor Belarus’ parliamentary election

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – The CIS plans to send 100-200 observers to monitor the parliamentary election in Belarus, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev has said on 19 June, BelTA has learnt.

The Committee is waiting for an invitation from Belarus. After the invitation is received, an observation mission will be formed to carry out “an unbiased, objective election monitoring in line with the legislation of the host state”. “It is a very important mission, the CIS Executive Committee has always treated it very seriously,” Sergei Lebedev added.

The number of observers is always agreed on with those who send them. “It is usually about 100-200 people. It is an optimal number that allows us to carry out an objective monitoring,” Sergei Lebedev said.

He informed that the CIS Executive Committee has already received an invitation from Ukrainian authorities to deploy observers to monitor the election to the Verkhovna Rada scheduled for 28 October.
