Martynov to attend Rio+20 conference

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) - Belarus’ delegation headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov will participate in the UN conference on sustainable development (Rio+20) in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on 20-22 June, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarus’ Foreign Ministry.

The Rio+20 participants will discuss the issues of green economy in the context of sustainable development and the management to ensure sustainable development.

Sergei Martynov is expected to deliver a speech on Belarus’ fundamental approaches to the new international agenda for sustainable development aimed at preventing the use of instruments of discrimination and coercion when implementing the green economy concept, ensuring freedom of choice of the ways of attaining sustainable development, making energy technologies more accessible and setting out the goals of sustainable development.

Rio+20 is set to adopt long-term decisions aimed at ensuring an integrated and balanced combination of economic growth with social problems and environment.

Sergei Martynov will also meet with the heads of other participating delegations and review the state and prospects of mutual economic and political cooperation.
