Nizhny Novgorod Oblast invites Minsk Oblast to sign cooperation agreement

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of Russia invites Minsk Oblast to sign a cooperation agreement, Chairman of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Legislative Assembly Evgeny Lebedev said as he met with Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Guminsky, BelTA learnt.

The delegation from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is in Belarus to study Minsk Oblast’s experience in the implementation of socially significant projects in agriculture and agro-tourism.

Viktor Guminsky noted that the delegation has a very intensive program. Minsk Oblast is one of the biggest regions in Belarus. “I would like you to learn more about our people and see our achievements. May you achieve the goals you have set for yourselves,” Viktor Guminsky underscored.

“We are aware about your successes in the agriculture industry. The major goal of our visit is to study this area,” Evgeny Lebedev said. Belarus chose a compromise between state control and private initiative in the agricultural sector. “We will try to study your achievements in this area,” he said.

Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is one of the most advanced regions of Russia. The region boasts a high level of industry and science. “We are ready to share our experience from car manufacturing to modern technologies,” Evgeny Lebedev emphasized.

Besides, the Russian delegation would like to study Belarusian experience in demography and the development of satellite towns. Evgeny Lebedev also underscored that Nizhny Novgorod Oblast suggests signing a cooperation agreement with Minsk Oblast “to achieve more systemic cooperation between oblasts.”

Evgeny Lebedev remarked that Belarus and Russia are the closest nations in terms of mentality. That is why it would be wrong for Russia not to cooperate with Belarus. He also called Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Belarus as a landmark event. “We have many things in common to continue developing together and helping each other. It is time we stopped making the mistakes we had made earlier. Neither Belarus nor Russia benefited from them,” Evgeny Lebedev underscored.
