Russia to discuss Belarus’ decision to assemble Chinese cars

MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – If Belarus decides to assemble Chinese cars, the matter will be discussed with Russia, Russia’s Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov told a press conference in Minsk on 6 June, BelTA has learnt.

“Naturally we cannot prohibit Belarus from assembling foreign cars and entering into agreements. But I would like to emphasize that in this case Russia would have to ask Belarus some questions regarding the matter. We know about the Chinese tax burden, the state has no social obligations. It never had, neither pension obligations nor any other. Therefore, the tax burden is minimal. The same pertains to wages… However, wages are rising now. Anyway, the burden on business is considerably lower, which made China the world’s major exporter,” the ambassador said.

“We understand this very well. If Belarus makes a positive decision regarding the Chinese cars, the matter will be seriously discussed with Russia. We do not want to destroy the Russian car industry,” Alexander Surikov said.

During the press conference he said that Belarus should also produce cars.
