Qatar condemns anti-Belarus resolutions

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Qatar is against anti-Belarus resolutions, Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Qatar Hamad bin Abd al-Aziz al-Kawari told the Actual Interview program on the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learnt.

“The Republic of Belarus is a friendly nation; we always stick together with our friends. In particular, Qatar condemns country resolutions,” the minister said. He noted that in 2006, 2007, and 2008 Qatar voted against the anti-Belarus resolutions. “Our country has always supported Belarus in most sensitive issues and initiatives. We try to prevent political decisions from bringing damage to the friendly Belarusian nation. This is a normal attitude, a normal position,” Hamad bin Abd al-Aziz al-Kawari emphasized.

He also spoke about investment cooperation between Qatar and Belarus. The minister noted that the state cooperates not only with other governments, but also raises private investments. In his view, the hotel complex that is being built in Belarus is among the most promising projects. “We are also considering construction of a compound fertilizers plant using Belarusian potassium in Qatar. The project is estimated at about $1.7 million”, he added.

Besides, the two countries plan to operate direct flights between the two capitals. This is expected to increase the tourist flow and boost business links between the two countries. “What matters most is that top officials are determined to expand cooperation between our states,” he emphasized.

Hamad bin Abd al-Aziz al-Kawari noted that Belarus is of interest for Qatari tourists. “Belarus has many things to offer to Qatari tourists. Belarus is exceptionally beautiful. We also have things to see and places to spend vacations. There is a great number of interesting places, like deserts and the sea. Qatari traditions and customs are worth seeing, too,” he said.

Hamad bin Abd al-Aziz al-Kawari believes that more Qatari tourists might choose to visit Belarus after the opening of the Doha-Minsk direct flight. “I think both Qatar and Belarus will gain from that, after all, we have things to offer to each other both in tourism and in business. Naturally, we will learn more about each other,” he said.

The minister also noted that the relations between Belarus and Qatar are making great progress. This pertains to cultural ties, too. He believes it is important that Belarusians attach great importance to cultural heritage.
