Belarus-Russia Interbank Currency Council meet in Polotsk

MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – Issues of bilateral cooperation were considered at the 36th meeting of the Interbank Currency Council of the Central Banks of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learnt from the information and PR department of the National Bank of Belarus.

Partaking in the meeting which took place in Polotsk, Vitebsk Oblast, was Chairperson of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) Nadezhda Yermakova, Chairman of the Bank of Russia Sergei Ignatyev, other representatives of the central banks of the two countries.

“The participants of the meeting analyzed the current economic situation and took stock of the main trends in the monetary policy of Belarus and Russia in 2012, including the exchange rate policy, reviewed the operation of the Belarusian and Russian banking systems in 2011,” the NBRB said.

The meeting also focused on the international reserves and foreign-currency liquidity in Belarus and Russia. The sides shared opinions on the work done to implement recommendations of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision on cooperation of the two central banks with the IMF and other financial organizations, on the status of negotiations regarding Belarus’ accession to the WTO.

The participants of the meeting agreed to hold the next meeting of the Interbank Currency Council of the Central Banks of Belarus and Russia in the Russian Federation in September-October 2012.
