CIS IPA praised as one of most influential international organizations

MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) - A parliamentary delegation of the National Assembly of Belarus headed by Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Viktor Guminsky took part in a meeting of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA), which was held in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the CIS IPA, BelTA learnt from the press service of the House of Representatives.

The meeting of the Council was attended by parliamentary delegations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Ukraine, representatives of the international parliamentary organizations.

In his speech Viktor Guminsky stated that the IPA established 20 years ago on the initiative of the parliaments of the CIS countries has become one of the most influential international organizations in a short space of time, has become an internationally recognized center of inter-parliamentary cooperation and law-making, the venue for major international forums. The Vice Speaker noted the invaluable contribution of the CIS IPA to the development of model legislation, harmonization of legislation in the countries of the Commonwealth. He added that the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly is a unique platform for multilateral cooperation in the CIS in almost all areas.

Viktor Guminsky also believes that there are enormous opportunities of the CIS states for the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation. Their implementation will substantially raise the standard of living of the population and turn the region that this integration association covers into one of the most developed regions of the world. It is the regional integration mechanisms that allow you to uncover the natural competitive advantages of the CIS countries.

According to Viktor Guminsky, over the last two decades the Assembly has gained a high international standing, having signed agreements on cooperation with 50 leading international organizations including the UN, PACE, OSCE PA and many more.

The meeting participants exchanged opinions on the CIS IPA observation of parliamentary and presidential elections in the Russian Federation, and the early parliamentary elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the end of the meeting the MPs adopted the statement on the 20th anniversary of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

Apart from that Viktor Guminsky met with Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin (Kazakhstan) to discuss the issues of current importance for the two countries. Nurlan Nigmatulin praised the dynamics of the relations between Belarus and Kazakhstan and stressed they can be cited as an example of integration relations in the former Soviet Union. Viktor Guminsky, in turn, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries within the Customs Union, the Single Economic Space, and other interstate unions on the post-Soviet area. Discussing the prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation, the sides underscored a big potential in economic and inter-parliamentary relations.
