Latvian Premier against sanctions against Belarus

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) - Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis is against sanctions against Belarus. Valdis Dombrovskis made the relevant statement in an interview with the Latvian newspaper Diena.

“Latvia is also against using wide sanctions that would affect many Belarusians and would inflict considerable damage to several European Union economies, including Latvia,” said Valdis Dombrovskis. In his words, the matter is being discussed by working groups now where representatives of Latvia vigorously speak up about minimization of the negative effect of economic sanctions in European Union member states.

The Latvian Prime Minister remarked the European Union does not provide for compensations for the damages a European Union state can incur due to the sanctions against Belarus.
