Belarus to tap into Russian loan to build nuclear station in April-May 2012

MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – The use of the Russian state loan provided to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant may start in April-May 2012, Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk told BelTA.

“Now the Russian side is busy finalizing the necessary working documents together with the Russian Finance Ministry and I think in April-May we will finance some of the work and order equipment using these credit resources,” said the official. The credit resources are a $10 billion credit line provided by Russia to Belarus on preferential terms.

Speaking about the commercial loan that Vnesheconombank will provide to Belarus to finance advance payments as part of the nuclear station construction project, the Deputy Energy Minister remarked: “Working documents are being finalized together with the bank”.
