CIS Heads of State Council may meet in Ashgabat in November

MOSCOW, 16 May (BelTA) – The next session of the CIS Heads of State Council may take place in Ashgabat on 2 November, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov President of Turkmenistan, the country presiding in the CIS this year, put forward this proposal at the informal meeting of the CIS heads of state in Moscow on 15 May.

Ukraine is to chair in the Commonwealth next year. However, during the informal meeting in Moscow Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych asked to put Ukraine’s chairmanship in the CIS off to 2014 as the country is to preside in the OSCE in 2013.

The President of Turkmenistan stressed that his country welcomes all the initiatives which are aimed at consolidating equal and mutually beneficial ties between the CIS member states. Turkmenistan believes that the unity of stances on securing peace plays a crucial role in the mutual relationship on the international arena.
