Upper house of Belarus Parliament ratifies CIS free trade area treaty

MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) – The Council of the Republic ratified the CIS free trade area treaty at a session on 8 May, BelTA has learnt.

The document sets out the appropriate conditions for full and effective functioning of free trade area in the CIS, said the chairperson of the permanent commission on international affairs and national security of the Council of the Republic Nina Mazai. The draft law will foster further integration towards the World Trade organization (WTO) regulations.

The document includes the WTO basic rules and regulations and covers the issues regarding the abolishment of import and export customs duties in mutual trade.

The document provides for mutual obligations of the parties that guarantee nondiscriminatory use of non-tariff regulation, national treatment regime and rules on subsidies compliant with international standards.

The Council of the Republic also ratified the agreement between Belarus and Indonesia on visa-free travels for holders of diplomatic and service passports and the treaty between Belarus and Russia to terminate all international treaties on indirect taxation.
