Belarus transport minister dismisses Belavia sale speculations

MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – Belarus is not going to sell the national air carrier Belavia, instead it plans to enlarge it, Transport and Communications Minister of Belarus Ivan Shcherbo told reporters on 3 May, BelTA has learnt.

According to the minister, the sale of the national air carrier is not even considered. There are plans to expand the company, buy new air planes and operate new flights. “The sale of the company is not on the ministry’s agenda this year or next year,” Ivan Shcherbo underlined commenting on some media reports on selling Belavia to Russia’s Aeroflot. “However, we are going to consider the company’s enlargement and capacity building,” the minister added.

He said that this year Belavia is going to buy two aircrafts. There are plans to find money to purchase at least two more air planes. “Whether this will be financial leasing, operating leasing or direct purchase is a secondary issue. What matters most is that we have set the goal to buy new planes,” Ivan Shcherbo said.
