Belarus’ trade surplus at $715m in Q1

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – In January-March 2012 Belarus’ foreign trade surplus amounted to $715.7 million, BelTA learnt from the National Statistics Committee.

Just to compare: in January-March 2011 the country posted deficit in foreign trade in goods at $2.9 billion.

Over the first three months of 2012 the foreign trade totaled $22.95 billion, up 22.6% over January-March 2011. Exports of goods grew 49.4% to $11.83 billion, imports increased by 2.9% to $11.12 billion.

The trade with the European Union made a great contribution to Belarus’ foreign trade surplus. The export to the EU leapt 2.1 times to $5.75 billion. The import from the EU reduced by 7.3% to $1.8 billion. The trade grew 1.6 times to $7.6 billion. The trade surplus stood at $3.9 billion.

The exports to the non-CIS in the first three months of 2012 augmented 1.7 times as against the same time last year to make up $6.69 billion. The imports contracted by 25.6% to $3.2 billion. The trade with non-CIS rose 21% to $9.9 billion. The surplus stood at $3.4 billion.

In January-March 2012 the exports to the CIS made up $5.1 billion, up 26.4% from January-March 2011. Imports increased by 22.2% to $7.9 billion. The trade with the CIS totaled $13 billion, up 23.8% over the same months a year ago.

Belarusian exports to the Customs Union went up by 21.3% to $3.8 billion, with the imports from these countries increasing by 34.4% to make up $7.4 billion. The trade with the Customs Union rose 29.6% to $11.3 billion. The deficit stood at $3.6 billion.

The trade with Russia strengthened by 29.3% to $11.1 billion. The export increased by 19.8% to $3.65 billion, the imports grew 34.6% to $7.4 billion. The deficit stood at $3.7 billion.
