Belarus, Russia eager to create Eurasian Union

MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have no differences of opinion regarding the idea to create the Eurasian Union, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told media after negotiations with President of Russia Vladimir Putin in the residence Zaslavl on 31 May.

Alexander Lukashenko is convinced: “The creation of the Eurasian Union is a matter of time. It will be decided soon”.

According to the Belarusian head of state, Belarus supports the idea of creating a single economic zone stretching from Lisbon to Vladivostok. “Backing the initiative, we announced the creation of ‘an integration of integrations’. If these integrations from Lisbon to Vladivostok are combined, we would get a single economic space. I think that taking into account the processes that have been going on recently the goal is quite achievable,” the Belarusian leader believes.

Speaking about the talks with the President of Russia, Alexander Lukashenko remarked they had discussed all areas of Belarusian-Russian cooperation. “It is a dialogue of trust that our sides have created and support. It allows achieving tangible results across the entire agenda of our cooperation,” said the head of state.

Once again the President of Belarus reminded that the present visit was taking place on the eve of the 20th anniversary of Belarus-Russia diplomatic relations. Alexander Lukashenko underlined the countries had achieved considerable success in promoting cooperation in various areas. Besides, Belarus has established very friendly relations with regions of Russia, an intensive dialogue on all matters of mutual interest is in progress. “Today we stated that we have no closed topics in mutual relations with our strategic partner,” said Alexander Lukashenko.
