Belarus backs OSCE countries in building security community

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – It is important for countries to continue working together to build a genuine security community in the OSCE space as part of the Helsinki +40 process initiated by Ireland during its presidency. The opinion was voiced by Mr Roman Romanovsky, Head of the Office for Pan-European Cooperation of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, in his speech at the extended participation session of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The forum was dedicated to preparing an annual meeting of OSCE foreign ministers that will take place in Dublin on 6-7 December, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told BelTA.

The representative of the Belarusian delegation laid down the approaches and priorities of Belarus regarding draft documents of the forthcoming ministerial meeting of the OSCE. Roman Romanovsky also underlined the need to reform the organization.

BelTA has been told that at the session attention was drawn to Belarus’ joint initiatives involving several partners in the Collective Security Treaty Organization regarding the adoption of documents at the forthcoming session of the OSCE Foreign Ministers Council, including documents concerning the fight against aggressive nationalism, violent extremism, Neo-Nazism, Neo-Fascism, the improvement of the OSCE election monitoring practices, and the enabling of the freedom of movement.
